Yellow Woolly Bear

A beautifully marked white moth appeared in my lawn - it has exquisite black-and-white legs and antennae that are really striking. Its antennae remind me of oryx horns!

This beauty is Spilosoma virginica, the yellow woolly bear moth, a native.

Why is it that I find the caterpillars named for their moth form and the moths named for their caterpillar stage?
