Magnificent Invasive!

Look at the beauty in this non-native aquatic plant, well established on Lake Arrowhead -it's breath-takingly beautiful.

I brought one home in a container in my kayak so I could photograph it without the lake ripples and kayak bobbing. I also want to photograph it alongside the native one that has a similar structure - this is the first year I've noticed the two species having an overlap in flowering times.

The Swollen Bladderwort is officially listed as invasive in Maine, though we have no known way of eradicating it. Other Northeastern states have similarly opted to list it as invasive, but New Hampshire has opted to regard it as a 'nuisance' plant. There are currently 5 known lakes in Maine where this plant has established itself since it was discovered here in 2021.
