Hardegat

In South Africa, we use the Afrikaans word "hardegat" or more colloquially 'harregat' (pronunciation: /ˈhɑːdəxat/, /hardəxat/) to describe someone being hard-nosed, tough, stubborn or obstinate. The literal translation would be hard ass. Here's me owning being 'hardegat," as I insist on hanging my laundry outside despite the howling, icy winds and a 'feels-like' temperature of 20°F (-6.7°C)

Dressed warmly because

I'm hanging laundry outside

I love it that way

It's thirty four F

The winds are strong and icy -

It feels like twenty!

Once inside, I warmed

My frozen fingers around

A mug of coffee

Laundry might be stiff

And also need some thawing

Once it's back indoors!
