Gall Signs

Are these thickened and sinuousy 'growths' along the veins of this leaf the sign of the oak vein pocket gall midge, I wonder?

It appears to be so, and is very similar in behavior and life cycle to the Maple eyespot gall I found a few days prior, except this one favors the red oaks. A long dark life in the ground, and a short light life as a small, mosquito-like fly.

A whole world/universe with its own wars and collaborations happening beneath our feet and above our heads.

Exactly! Microworlds within worlds, all with their own problems
