These exquisite coils remind me of bedsprings or electric cables.
They are the coiled flower stems of the white water lily (
Nymphaea odorata). Once fertilized, the stalk coils and pulls the flower down beneath the water's surface, where the fruit matures and will be dispersed. Great mechanism.
