Muted Beauty

The browns, bronzes and yellows of autumn interspersed with green makes for a beautiful, though somber, color contrast. It has its own beauty and is pleasing to the eye, though I think November is not usually recognized for its splendor. I think it's subtlety is overshadowed by the more dramatic, "look at me" offerings in other months. 😀

I absolutely love seeing the inspiration that plant survey work has initiated among my PALZ team members. Dina and her husband Mark have been stalwart, invaluable members of our survey team since its beginnings in 2022. Their dedication and commitment is unmatched!

Dina combines her interest in learning about aquatic plants with her natural inclination to be creative. This beautiful rendition of native bladderwort and pipewort flowers on a greetings card by Dina is very special and realistic - I can picture being there with her!

Natural Magnifier

What a magnificent way of looking closely at the details on a maple leaf - through the lens of a drop of water. It provides a spectacular magnification of the texture of the epidermal surface of the leaf - irregularly shaped cells are visible under each droplet.

I zoomed out to provide perspective, though now only the major veins are obvious.
